Biography
Julia Bleakney is the Director of the Hume Writing Center in the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stanford University. She has a Ph.D. in English from the University of Minnesota, and a B.A. (Honors) in American Studies and Literature from the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, where she was born and grew up. Prior to coming to Stanford, she was a full-time faculty member and director of the writing center at a community college in Southern California. She is a member of the International Writing Centers Association, where she serves on its Mentor Matching Committee, and the Northern California Writing Centers Association. Her research focuses on the history, politics, and practices of writing program and writing center assessment in U.S. colleges and universities.
