Biography

Daniel Murray is a Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University in the Program in Modern Thought & Literature. He is currently writing his dissertation, titled Insurgent Democracy, which draws on political theory, the study of social movements, and participant research to examine a number of historical political movements and Occupy Wall Street.

When he is not teaching and writing, Daniel works to bridge academia and activism. He is active in labor and climate justice activism at Stanford and in the Bay Area, and has been involved in Occupy Wall Street since its origins in 2011. Most recently, he has been working with Occupy the Farm in the East Bay. He has had his fair share of run-ins with teargas, riot squads, rubber bullets, and flex-cuffs. They hurt.

Daniel received his B.A. from UCLA in film and theater. He watches too many movies and is currently writing a screenplay about a police informant in a political organization. He lives with his partner in Oakland and they are expecting their first child in April.
